Types of Work Visas
Short-Term Employment Visa (Type C)
- Valid for up to 90 days.
- Suitable for seasonal work, training, or short assignments.
- Requires a valid employment contract and an invitation from the employer.
- Proof of accommodation, financial means, and travel medical insurance is needed.
- Application is made at the Latvian embassy or consulate in your home country.
Long-Term Employment Visa (Type D)
- For stays longer than 90 days.
- Employer must register the vacancy with the State Employment Agency for at least 10 working days.
- If no suitable candidates are found locally, the employer can sponsor your work permit.
- Requires an employment contract, proof of accommodation, financial means, and medical insurance.
- After approval, you apply for a temporary residence permit in Latvia.
EU Blue Card
- For highly qualified workers with a university degree or significant professional experience.
- The job offer must meet a minimum salary threshold (around 1.5 times the national average salary).
- Allows stay up to 5 years and offers mobility across the EU.
- Requires employer approval and sponsorship.
General Requirements for All Work Visas
- Valid passport (with at least 3 months validity beyond stay)
- Recent passport-sized photographs
- Signed employment contract
- Proof of accommodation in Latvia
- Proof of sufficient financial resources
- Valid travel medical insurance covering Latvia and the Schengen area
- Criminal record certificate
- Relevant educational and professional qualifications
- Payment of visa fees
